Bible Study on Genesis 26 | Study the Whole Bible with Me

Bible Study on Genesis 26 | Study the Whole Bible with Me so in Genesis 26 I do have to say a lot
of Genesis 26 reminds me of what Abraham and Sarah went through and I’ll talk
about that a little bit so verse 1 we find out that there’s a famine in the
land and I think went to Abimelech king of the Philistines and if you remember
back and uh I don’t know what chapter of Genesis but when Abraham first started
his you know the story of Abraham and God told Abraham to go to Canaan and
there was a famine in the land and Abraham got scared he didn’t trust God
you know he didn’t think well God told me to come here and I’m gonna stay here
no matter what even if it doesn’t make sense he went to Egypt he got to a
little bit of trouble there so I kind of reminded me of this situation and the
word even said it was a different famine than what Abraham went through prior so
we know this is a distinctly different famine that Isaac is going through here
so I think went to Abimelech like I said in a previous video
Abimelech is used several times throughout the Bible but it’s just a
general term for somebody who is of power vs. 2 through 6 the LORD commanded
Isaac not to go to Egypt so same thing that the Lord told Abraham you know way
back except Abraham didn’t listen he did go to Egypt
and to stay where he was then Isaac and his offspring will be blessed
so Isaac state and that’s what the words that you know I think the Lord told
Isaac don’t leave you know don’t go to Egypt and I just Isaac stayed so I
aspire to have that kind of faith that I workout it’ll tell me do this and then I
just do it without questioning without asking without you know having to wonder
why God or what’s the plan we don’t always have to know the plan we just
have to trust him so I said immediately obeyed and the word said Abraham did all
that God commanded him so I thought this was such a good lesson for me and I’ll
explain I magnify everything that I do wrong and I beat myself up for it and
that is a sin because God said you are forgiven and so I should know that I’m
forgiven I don’t need to beat myself up for every little thing that I do wrong
I just need to accept the fact that God’s grace it’s good enough and I don’t
need to you know go ahead and beat myself up for my sins even more
it says Abraham said all that God commanded of him and the first thing I
thought was no he didn’t because there are so many times where Abraham didn’t
listen but if you overall look at Abraham’s life he is still a person he’s
a man and he’s not perfect but yeah overall he did listen to God and so that
just kind of taught me that I need to be a little bit easier on myself and maybe
you need that lesson too we don’t have to be so hard on ourselves
sometimes if you’re the type of person that’s really hard on yourself take a
step back and evaluate your life yes there if you have known sin in your life
and you know major issues that you need to stop and be dealt with immediately do
that but generally speaking you know we’re not you know you’re not a horrible
person if you make a mistake verses 7 through 11 when the men asked I think
about Rebecca he said she was his sister on a fair number I think
I’m sorry Abraham did the same thing with Sarah and Abimelech saw Isaac with
Rebecca so Abimelech was probably far off I
think the word said he was you know looking at Isaac and Rebecca and he saw
that me you probably thinking to himself you know they don’t look like brother
and sister they look a little bit closer then he asked Isaac if it really was his
sister and I think revealed the truth he said you know not all Rebecca is my wife
I was just afraid that they would kill me for her so then I’ve been like
ordered everyone to do no harm to Rebecca and Abimelech was kind of like
well she just told us from the beginning you know so that someone wouldn’t you
know try to be with your wife because they thought that that was your sister
so history kind of repeats herself in this sense verses 12 through 15 I think
planted crops in harvested and it sounded like he was very plentiful with
the harvest oh and God blessed him he became rich and it got to the point
where Abimelech will others became jealous first and then a bit Abimelech
basically wanted Isaac to leave he said you have too much stuff you’re too
powerful leave others became jealous and they started
filling the wealth dug by Abraham servants with dirt verses 16 through 22
about Abimelech wanted istick to leave so I think moves to a valley of dare are
I think it’s pronounced and reopened the wells so he reopened the wells ever
filled with dirt Isaac had two disputes over wells but he kept avoiding conflict
until he sells in an area where there was none so he would try to start a well
and then somebody would say this is my area or you know whatever there was just
so much issues and I think didn’t want anything to do with the conflict didn’t
want anything to do with the issues he just kept looking for another area where
he would find a well and he and he found an area where he had it well and there
was no issues and there was no conflict so kind of think about your own life is
there any areas where you’re struggling and you’re battling with someone over
something that’s really not that important
can you move on and just you know find another area that in your life that’s
more calm can you move on and just be you know not argumentative peace is
something that’s highly valued not only in the word but also just in our lives
you know you when you have a conflict with someone or at least speaking for
myself and I have a conflict with someone I just feel a lot of tension I
don’t feel my happiest and so if you have an issue with someone especially if
it’s not a huge issue just move on move past it and find peace Isaac went to
birth she bought in the Lord left him and right after the Lord bless him what
did Isaac do he praised God so we should always remember that I try to remember
that verses 26 through 30 Abimelech came to Isaac and he saw that the Lord was
with Isaac and wanted to make peace no Abimelech noticed God’s presence over
Isaac’s life and he had enough respect and fear of God that he thought you know
let me make peace with this person that I just kicked out just because he didn’t
want the hand of God to be upon him in a negative way so Obama like made peace
with Isaac and instead of Isaac saying you know what you kick me out of your
land I don’t have anything to do with you he didn’t say that
he honored his guests that came to him he
had a feast for a bit luck he stayed a bit like stayed overnight and Isaac
really went above and beyond for Abimelech so that’s another example that
we can all hold on to if there’s somebody who has hurt you and they try
to reconcile and make things better it’s okay just like the old goal at the
pass go and make peace serve them be there for them verse 32
through 33 and it says on that day so the day that I think served Abimelech
and had the feast for a bit like they found water at the well and I think that
was put there to show that when we are obedient to God he blesses us so I said
made peace with Abimelech he didn’t start another conflict he didn’t want to
start an issue he made peace and God blessed him with water at the well and
then the end of this chapter I thought it was really interesting but I think it
starts to it’s gonna segue into how East I lost his blessing because verses 34
through 35 it said it just talks about Esau and his wife when he was 40 he
married Judith and basa meth and it doesn’t they were a source of grief for
Isaac and Rebekah and I did a little bit of research and I guess they were
Hittites and bascinet I can’t remember if those Judith herb asked him if their
father or one of their descendants were from Canaan and if you go back and
remember Abraham even when he wanted a wife for Isaac he did not want I think
to have a wife from Canaan and so you know Rebecca was from his homeland so we
see here that not only are they from a location that is detestable
according to Abraham and Isaac but it seems as if you know whatever they were
doing it was not positive and Isaac and Rebecca were not approving of it even
the fact that he had more than one wife I’m just guessing at this point I don’t
know but looking at Abraham had one wife it was
I mean he did have another wife when she passed away but the Bible doesn’t talk
about Abraham having two wives at once and thinking with Isaac Isaac he had he
has just Rebecca but Esau had two wives so I don’t know if that was another
source of grief for them you know how I don’t know how I think and Rebecca felt
about that either or anything like that but that was just an observation that I
made but that is it so next week will be Genesis 27 thank you so much for
watching and I will talk to you next time
