Hi guys! It’s Bri here from St Paul’s and welcome to our very first online kid’s Sunday group. I’m so glad that you’re here. Before we start make sure that you’ve got plenty of space because we’ll be doing some actions in just a minute. But before we begin Why don’t we all pray together. Heavenly Father, thank you so much for this beautiful Sunday morning. And God I pray that you would be with us as we learn more about you and learn to love you more. Amen. Alright let’s get started! Hi guys! Good Morning! I hope you’ve had a good weekend, and that your last day at school was alright. I know for some of you, it must have been really sad. And we’re all a bit little unsure of what’s happening at the moment. But we’re really just gonna pray that God gives us an absolute peace about that. So today, we’re gonna be looking at a story of “Jesus calms the storm” Now for some of you, you may want to watch the story. So there’s gonna be a video link on Youtube which you can look up. If you look a the story “Jesus calms the storm” by Saddleback Kids There’s an amazing animation clip of the passage that I’m gonna be reading today. But for the older kids, I know there’s quite a lot of you, I’m gonna actually read out of my Bible So, the story we’re gonna be looking at is in Mark. And it’s Mark 4:35 and it says: That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Now that is amazing, when I try and talk to the waves, they don’t obey me. But Jesus has that absolute power. And… this really made me think about how scared the disciples were. They were quite anxious. They were really scared. Jesus was sleeping there, on his cushion and… they came and woke him up And this actually made me think: a few years ago, I went on a cruise ship. And… the one night the waves were really choppy. And as we were sitting at dinner, the table was going like this as we were trying to eat. And it was quite scary. I remember feeling quite sick from it. Later, when I was trying to walk to my room also, the corridors were going like this. And that’s what I imagine the disciples felt like, but only on a biiiigger scale because their boat would have been tiny. The ship I was on was quite big. And I knew I was safe. But those disciples were scared, they were afraid. So, I wonder what you may be afraid of right now. Are you scared of something? You may be worried about school finishing. You may be worried about staying at home for so long and having to be inside. You may be worried about your parents fighting or you fighting with your siblings Or maybe, if Granny or Grampa is ill. But you know what? We need to be like the disciples. And we need to look to Jesus. That’s what they did. When they were absolutely scared, they went to Jesus. And the amazing thing that Jesus says here is: “Quiet! Be still!” Now sometimes, I know when I’m nervous, I can feel it in my heart, and my heart keeps pounding. Or maybe I can’t fall asleep at night. Or maybe I’m worried and I don’t feel like eating. Some of you may feel like that sometimes. But… What I love about this is when I think of quiet, be still Jesus gives us that peace and peace is for me, when I think of it is nearly like Jesus calming my heart, calming my heart down that I know I don’t have to worry, I don’t have to be afraid. Because he is in control. Even the wind and the waves obey him. And I think that’s absolutely amazing. Like sometimes I think it’s really hard for us to be still and have peace. Who of you have played musical statues? I know that game can be quite tricky. Because as soon as the music stops we gotta freeze and be still. But even then we want to move our bodies a little bit. We do it by accident, we don’t mean to. And sometimes we need to take the time to relax, and to be still and to come before Jesus, to come to him, to pray, to read our bibles, to know that he is in control And that he can give us peace, he can stop our hearts from fluttering. from maybe feeling a little bit weird or our tummies a little bit sore. So even with things changing all around us at the moment I want you to remember that the person you need to go to is Jesus. Jesus can give us that peace. So this week we’re going to be looking at the subject of peace, the topic of peace over the next few days. And so tomorrow if you look on Facebook, we’re going to be putting up our memory verse for the week. We’re also going to be doing some crafts later on in the week. But today I’ve also got some questions for you. They’re gonna come up on the screen in a minute. And those questions are for you to discuss as a family. And then there’s a craft that you can all make. Depending on your age, some of you will be able to do more, some of you will be able to do less. But before we get to that I think one thing I want you to also remember is that it’s the Holy Spirit who can give us peace. And he is the one who will make our hearts calm down. So before we carry on, I want us to pray together. So, Dear Lord Jesus, I just thank you that we can come here today that even though we can’t meet together in our Sunday groups, that we are able to still connect online. We thank you for technology. And Jesus I just pray that sometimes when we’re afraid or we’re scared that we can come to you and we will know your peace. and that you will calm our hearts. and that the Holy Spirit will fill us. Lord I just pray for all those children out there, that you’ll fill them with your peace. Peace that surpasses all understanding. So that even when it doesn’t make sense why we feel so peaceful We’ll know it’s because of you Jesus. So I pray that you protect each one of these children. Amen.
