PREPARING FOR THE LORD’S COMING, THE FAITHFUL SERVANT

PREPARING FOR THE LORD’S COMING, THE FAITHFUL SERVANT

In the book of Matthew chapter 24, the Lord
Jesus tells his disciples the signs of his coming. And then in chapter 25, he goes on to tell
them three parables in which the Lord reveals what they have to do to prepare for his coming. The first is the parable of the ten virgins
who were waiting on the bridegroom, five were foolish because they took their lamps but
no oil. The other five were wise because they took
their oil in their lamps. The bridegroom delayed so they all slumbered
and slept, but then at midnight, a cry was made that the bridegroom was coming. The foolish ones went out to get oil for their
lamps, when they got back, the bridegroom had already left with the wise ones. The wise had oil in their lamps, and that
is they were walking in spirit and therefore they were shining the light of Jesus in the
dark world. The second parable is that of the talents. So a man goes away and calls his servants
and gives them talents. One received five, the other two and the other
received one according to their ability. The one that got five traded it and got five
more, the one that got two doubled it to get four but the one that got one talent did nothing
with it but rather hid it. The servants that traded were commended by
the master as good and faithful servants but the one that hid his talent was called a wicked
and a lazy servant. Wherefore he saith that when he ascended up
on high , he led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men which he expects that we serve
to edify the body of Christ and to expand God’s kingdom on earth. Then finally, there is a parable of the sheep
and the goats. The goats did not support the needy and therefore
they were punished but the sheep practice a pure religion which is not only to keep
oneself unspotted from the world but to visit the widows , the fatherless, the needy. So from this three parables , those who would
be ready for the coming of the Lord will be walking in spirit, they will be serving their
gifts in the way to edify the body of Christ and to expand God’s kingdom on earth and
they will be helping the needy.
