Put Your Heart Into It – Daily Devotion

I LOVE COOKING.
I HATE DOING THE DISHES. IF IT WERE UP TO ME,
I’D JUST HIRE SOMEONE TO CLEAN UP ALL MY MESSES
AFTER I PREPARE MEALS. ONE DAY MY MOTHER WAS OVER
AND SHE SCOLDED ME FOR STUFFING ALL THE DISHES
IN THE DISHWASHER. SHE PROCEEDED TO WASH EVERY DISH AND SCRUB MY BURNT PANS UNTIL
THE BOTTOMS SHINED AGAIN. SHE EXPLAINED CLEAN
DISHES WERE A SERVICE TO MY FAMILY’S HEALTH
AND A REPRESENTATION OF WHAT I SAY I BELIEVE. THAT FOREVER CHANGED THE WAY
I THOUGHT ABOUT DOING DISHES. COLOSSIANS 3:23 SAYS,
“WHATEVER YOU DO, “WORK AT IT WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AS WORKING FOR THE LORD, “NOT FOR HUMAN MASTERS.” GOD DESIRES FOR US TO DO THINGS
AS IF IT WERE FOR HIM, EVEN IN THE MUNDANE TASKS. IT CAN BE CHALLENGING
TO SEE THE SIGNIFICANCE IN THE THINGS WE DON’T WANT
TO DO, OR THAT SEEM UNIMPORTANT. BUT EACH TASK IS AN
OPPORTUNITY TO REPRESENT GOD TO OTHER PEOPLE. SO FOR YOU, MAYBE
IT’S DOING THE DISHES, OR DRIVING YOUR KIDS TO SCHOOL, PICKING UP THE TRASH AT CHURCH, OR VOLUNTEERING ON THE PTA
THAT IS DAUNTING. BUT IN REALITY,
IT’S MINISTERING TO OTHERS. SO MANY PEOPLE THINK THAT
MINISTRY OCCURS IN THE CHURCH, FROM THE PULPIT. BUT IT’S IN THE SMALL
EVERYDAY MOMENTS THAT WE HAVE A CHANCE
TO MINISTER TO PEOPLE THROUGH OUR ACTIONS
AND CONVERSATIONS. IT ALL MATTERS
AND IT’S ALL MINISTRY.
