Symbolism #3: Names of Lord Ganaesha – 2

In Hindu religion, names describe the nature of the deity Today, let us look at the meaning of name of Lord Ganaesha Eesha or Pati means Lord, Gana-Eesha therfore means, Lord of Ganas The word Gana, has many meanings One: The subtlest particle of Chaitanya Or Divine Consciousness As explained in Part 1, Ganaesha is the Universal Consciousness or Pure Intellect- Mahat Tattva Therefore, He is obviously the Lord of Gana- every single subtlest particle of Chaitanya, the Divine Consciousness The second meaning: Troops, Hordes or Armies Which Ganas or Troops is He the Lord of ? He is said to be the Lord or the leader of Lord Shiva’s Army, the Bhoota-Ganas The word Bhoot-Ganas can be interpreted in many ways once again Let us look at 3 meanings of Bhootaas First : Bhoota- the host of Ghosts Lord Shiva is the Lord of death and afterlife Therefore, His army is made up of various types of powerful ghosts and fiercesome creatures Bhoota, Praeta, Pisachas and so on While these scary beings are quiet and benign in Shiva’s presence On their own, they can be very malevolent This troop of Lord Shiva is the most common reference of the word Bhoota-Ganas The second meaning of Bhootaas The dull-headed ones. It means : those who are ignorant of the Supreme Reality Which means that we may believe in a Supreme Source yet, we do not truly understand It as we have not experienced It. So, all beings who are not enlightened, which is “almost all of us”, WE are the Bhootas or the dull-minded ignorant ones Shiva, as the Adi-Guru, as the originator and teacher of Yoga, is the Lord who teaches enlightenment to us So, we are His Bhoota Ganas, ignorant masses. The 3rd meaning of Bhoota-ganas One who is born or created which means, literally everything in creation falls under this heading of Bhootas Bhoota-Ganas in this context are then, the representative assemblies of all forms of creation from the Pancha-bhootas and other Tattvas, the energies and forces which rule the world, to the Worlds, the beings in all the planes of existence So, everything which ” Was, Is and Will be Created” are the Bhoota-Ganas of Shiva the Supreme Lord Lord Shiva, made His son the Lord of His Bhoota-Ganas, when Ganaesha single handedly defeated all of them Thus Ganaesha or Ganapati can be understood as the Lord of the Ghost army, the Lord of Enlightenment and the Lord of everything within Creation
