What does the Bible say about tithing?

What does the Bible say about tithing?

Hey, welcome back. What does the Bible really say about tithing? It’s time to UNLEARN the lies. It is popular in Christian churches to teach
that we must tithe 10% of our paycheck to the church, but is this really what the Bible
teaches? I find it quite ironic (and hypocritical)
that the churches who teach that the Law is abolished are the same ones who teach that
you must pay them a tithe from your income. This teaching is quite popular because it
ensures a steady income for the pastors, but is it Biblical? What does the Bible actually tell us about
tithing? The Torah instructions concerning the tithe
are always about produce, grain, and livestock. “And all the tithe of the LAND, whether
of the SEED of the land or of the FRUIT of the TREE, is the Lord’s. It is holy to the Lord… And concerning the tithe of the HERD or the
FLOCK, of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the Lord.” – Leviticus 27:30-32 Notice it is the tenth animal that you tithe
on. This means if you only have 9 cows, you do
not give a tithe of your cows, and if you have 19 sheep, you are required to give only
one of them as a tithe. Some people will argue that the tithe was
only produce and animals at that time, because they did not have money, but that is completely
untrue. We see in Genesis that money was commonly
used. Abraham had gold and silver, and he purchased
a plot of land to bury Sarah when she died. “and he spoke to Ephron in the hearing of
the people of the land, saying, “If you will give it, please hear me. I will give you money for the field; take
it from me and I will bury my dead there.” – Genesis 23:13 Also, when Joseph was working for Pharaoh,
he sold food for money, and when his brothers came to buy food, he had the money placed
back into their bags. “Then Joseph gave a command to fill their
sacks with grain, to restore every man’s money to his sack, and to give them provisions for
the journey. Thus he did for them.” – Genesis 42:25 We also know that when the census was taken,
it was required that each person give one half shekel as an offering to the Lord, and
it was not based on how much wealth a person had, but it was a flat tax that everyone paid. “When you take the census of the children
of Israel for their number, then every man shall give a ransom for himself to the Lord,
when you number them, that there may be no plague among them when you number them. This is what everyone among those who are
numbered shall give: half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (a shekel is
twenty gerahs). The half-shekel shall be an offering to the
Lord. Everyone included among those who are numbered,
from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering to the Lord. The rich shall not give more and the poor
shall not give less than half a shekel, when you give an offering to the Lord, to make
atonement for yourselves.” – Exodus 30:12-15 So, we see in this particular instance, God
specifically asked for money, but this was not a tithe. This was a specific case in which money was
requested by God for taking a census. However, money was not to be taken for tithe. In fact, there is an exception that is made
that specifically mentions money and how it is to be used concerning the tithe. “But if the journey is too long for you,
so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the Lord your God chooses
to put His name is too far from you, when the Lord your God has blessed you, then you
shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the
Lord your God chooses. And you shall spend that money for whatever
your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or similar drink, for whatever your heart
desires; you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your
household.” – Deuteronomy 14:24-26 So, we see that the only time money can be
used in connection with tithes is when the journey is too far to carry your produce and
cattle, then you can sell your tithes for money, and take the money on your journey
so that you can buy food and beverages for your tithe. Notice also that this tithe is to be eaten
by you, because it is for you to celebrate the Feasts of the Lord, such as Passover,
Pentecost, and Tabernacles. Even in the New Testament, when it mentions
tithe, it is always in the context of produce (not money). “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of MINT and ANISE and CUMMIN,
and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving
the others undone.” – Matthew 23:23 “But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe MINT and RUE and all manner
of HERBS, and pass by justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving
the others undone.” – Luke 11:42 So, if your preacher asks you for your tithe,
I guess you can give him a salad, because the only tithe mentioned in the New Testament
was items from a garden. So, what is the purpose of the Tithe? Why did God tell Israel to tithe, and who
was the tithe for? The Bible explains that the tithe was given
to the Levites to eat, because they did not receive a land inheritance. All of the other tribes were given land, so
they could grow crops and raise livestock, but the Levites were appointed to serve in
the Temple, and did not have any land to grow their own food. So, God setup the tithes as a way to provide
food for the Levites. “Speak thus to the Levites, and say to them:
‘When you take from the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them
as your inheritance, then you shall offer up a heave offering of it to the Lord, a tenth
of the tithe… You may eat it in any place, you and your
households, for it is your reward for your work in the tabernacle of meeting.” – Numbers 18:26-31 The tithe was for the Levites. It was not given to the rabbis or teachers,
unless of course they were Levites. In fact, Yeshua never received tithes from
anyone, because He was not a Levite. Even today, Jewish rabbis do not collect tithes,
because they understand that the tithes are for the Levites serving in the Temple, not
the rabbis. So, why do so many preachers impose and require
tithes from their congregations? There are two main reasons that I have found. In most cases, the preacher has inherited
lies too, and he does not realize that he is taking illegal tithes. He does it because that is the way it has
been done for centuries. These preachers need to have their eyes opened
to the truth. However, in some cases, the preacher is greedy
and deceptive, deliberately twisting the Scriptures to their advantage, and manipulating people
into giving them 10% of their income. These men are wolves in sheep’s clothing. They prey on the poor, telling them “if
you give from your poverty, God will bless you with wealth.” They also like to prey on the emotions of
the people by twisting the words of Malachi concerning tithes. However, when we look at the context of what
Malachi was saying, we see that he was talking about tithes of produce and grain in the storehouse. “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, For you have
robbed Me, Even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If
I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there
will not be room enough to receive it.” – Malachi 3:8-10 Malachi is not talking about blessing us with
money as the prosperity preachers claim. He is talking about God blessing us with an
abundance of produce and livestock. I talk about this more in my video titled
the “Biblical truth about blessings and curses”. The Biblical tithe is part of the Temple service,
and is meant for the Levites and the poor. The tithe was never given to rabbis or teachers. However, there is a need for financial support
for ministry, and the Bible does speak about this type of giving. “Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no
right to refrain from working? Who ever goes to war at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of
its fruit? Or who tends a flock and does not drink of
the milk of the flock? Do I say these things as a mere man? Or does not the law say the same also? For it is written in the law of Moses, “You
shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.” Is it oxen God is concerned about? Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written,
that he who plows should plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope should be partaker
of his hope. If we have sown spiritual things for you,
is it a great thing if we reap your material things? If others are partakers of this right over
you, are we not even more? Nevertheless we have not used this right,
but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ. Do you not know that those who minister the
holy things eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of
the offerings of the altar? Even so the Lord has commanded that those
who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.” – 1 Corinthians 9:6-14 If there is a ministry that you like, that
is helping you to grow in your faith, then you should support that ministry, because
without adequate support that ministry will not be able to sustain itself. However, this type of support is not a “tithe”. If someone is dedicating their life to teaching
and spreading the truth of the Bible, is it too much to ask for those who have benefited
from their ministry to give a donation to help support the work of that ministry? We should be people who are willing to give
and help others in need, especially if they are doing God’s work. But, you are not obligated to give 10% of
your income. Any gift you give to support a ministry is
a love gift, and you are free to give any amount you desire. This type of giving is not compulsory, but
is done out of a desire to help support the ministry. I hope this teaching has helped to clear up
the subject of tithing, and has given you a new perspective on giving to support a ministry. Thanks for watching this video. Post your questions and comments below. If you liked this video, give it a thumbs

100 thoughts on “What does the Bible say about tithing?”

  1. Tithing is a personal thing between God and me.
I Choose to give 10% of my SSI check.
I buy formula for the local women's shelters.
    It blesses me.
    I also highly recommend it.
Tithe or not, it's 'tween you and God!

  2. Poor souls. If you tithe to me, you I will grant you eternal life and a yacht. Raise your hand if you don't want a yacht. Anyone? Hello….

  3. I do believe in God but I must admit I do not go to church mostly for the reason that every church I go to half the service is about paying tithes and if you don't pay you are all of a sudden no longer a faithful Christian

  4. I've felt this way after seeking everything the bible has to say about tithing and giving. It's unfortunate that so many aren't willing to study the word themselves, and just take what the preachers preach for truth.

  5. Just wanted to say your explanation of this was very informative. I have always thought that this was not right. God doesn't want your money he wants your heart. Thank you so much for clearing this up. I know that when you tell others of this that they get offended and give the reasons we were given long ago. God Bless you man of God.🙏

  7. Once again, a great argument regarding tithes or even mandating them.  Is it appropriate to make a contribution to the church and under what situations? I see it for the poor and those in need.

  8. What about Proverbs 3: 9  Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

10  So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Substance in the hebrew means Wealth & riches .
Increase means income, revenue and gain.
Sounds like money today. Please explain.

  9. Let's look at Numbers 31, which deals with the same items as is seen in Genesis (for those who love to abuse the Genesis accout of tithing, as it THAT were some sort of unspoken principle). Nowhere does Israel practice what Abraham did in relation to spoils of war, and yet the spoils are magically equated to modern income. How does that happen? Where's the parallel? When it comes to the INCREASE from crops and livestock, that too fails to be a parallel to INCOME that is NOT a biblically defined form INCREASE. Wages are an EXCHANGE of money for skills and labor, not an INCREASE. When we exchange something, we are generally giving something of equal value for what we are receiving. There's no increase in relation to how the Bible defines increase.

The INCREASE spoken of, and defined by, scripture is that over which only the Lord has control. It's a mechanism that the Lord created and provides for ALL our benefit, and therefore the Lord rightfully demands a portion. The lies foisted upon the peoples by the plethora of false teachers behind pulpits is a tragic item among so many false teachings emanating from pulpits and Sunday school classes, books, discs, periodicals, TV programs, et al. I have written on this topic for many years now and have been told by numerous people how they have been set free from the bondages of the Law and the shackles of religious enslavement. Ministers are supposed to FEED the sheep, not SHEER them.

Now, someone is always going to claim that the "church" has to have money for utilities and upkeep. So, that is a justification for lies? Does the end justify the means? Is that the Christian ethic of those who make such claims? Where does the word of God command the necessity for the sheer LUXURY of communal facilities in the first place? Try to make that argument, and I will have to point out that all those boxes with four walls perpetuate the concept of schism more than it helps to encourage unity in ALL the local body of Christ in each locale. The autonomy of individual church organizations are the antithesis of unity, and that remains the modern practice handed down to us from the historic Roman Catholic cult, which also hammers the stake of tithing into its people's hearts to this day.

  10. Hello everyone! I had to withdraw my comments on this video about tithing. I had made the comment that the Sabbath Day was replaced by Christ who is our sabbath. I'm wrong and hope nobody believes the Sabbath Day has gone away. This channel explains the Sabbath Day as it should be explained and that is: it is still one of the 10 commandments, Christ came to fulfill the law not take away the law and God meant for us to have a day of rest since the beginning. I apologize to all who I may have misguided and to the brother who has taken the trouble to expose the many lies concerning scripture.

  11. Most ministries are NOT doing Gods work. They are manipulating scripture and so many are health, wealth, New Apostolic Reformation, Kindom Now, Dominionism, 7 Mountain Mandate, false miracles, false signs, word of faith, false teachers. Religion and church these days is SO screwed up and the TV evangelists and music are off the charts heretical.

  12. wasn't tithes before the levites? Abraham and Jacob paid tithes. tithes isn't according to the order of the levites but according the order of melchezedic.

  13. This guy is wrong about tithing what about in the new testament when the lady put in one mite and said that she put in more than any because they but in of there abundance and she put in all they she had

  14. Ok..but still how do I tithe..??? With food??? N where? ? .if I tithes food to fam n friends..is that a tithes?

  15. Bottom line, Tithing was given to the Levite priest of the Old Testament but when Jesus died, the veil was torn into and all believes (Chritians) became kings and priest of the new covenant.
But you are a chosen race, a Royal Priesthood, a holy nation…." 1 Peter 2:9

  16. Thanks for sharing this. I’m currently a worship pastor at my church for over 3 years, and am at a financial situation where it’s almost impossible to tithe. However I try to make up for it with my time and talent, investing countless hours (aside from my personal life) to the church, however that doesn’t seem to be enough. Today I’m facing the hardship of having to step down in lieu of this. I am so confused and so heart broken because I love my church and our ministry. However I can’t afford to pay for this position. God bless!!

  17. Tithing was only applicable during the old testament but when the Messiah our savior died in the cross that means no need for animal sacrifices it is finished. Actually the new testament only started after death of our Lord Jesus Christ. It means the old testament no more applicable after death of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  18. My mother in law watched this after hesitating to do so. She still adamantly disagrees with no verses to point to. She just keeps saying “I have been taught by very good pastors you should tithe.”

It’s amazing how brainwashed people are and how unwilling they are to fact-check what they believe simply because they don’t want to admit or accept they were lied to all their lives.

  19. Awesome teaching. I love that all your work is biblically based; nothing less nothing more. This clarified to me that I can offer a gift toall the ministries who feed me spiritually not only a "tithe" to my main congregation.

May Yah bless you and your family

  20. When Jesus says give to Cesar what is Cesar’s and give to God what is Gods then what does he mean?

  21. You are totally wrong of understanding the God law. God didnt ask money… only human did the law. Nothing more nothing less he only ask help the poor, the sick, and the weak to shelter them until they recover to help other ask your donation to faith to god.

  22. I am an evangelist and believe who, heartedly the church has a biblical responsibility to sow financially into the church and into ministries with fruit and I would never teach paying a tithe.
If one desires to GIVE a tithe , that is wonderful, but don’t PAY a tithe, that is not a biblical New Testament practice and will bring you into guilt, bondage, pride, and fear.

  23. today at church i saw this pastor preach tithing for almost 20 minutes. He was wearing a Louis Vuitton tie and belt which approximately ha a combined cost of over 1000 dollars. TITHING!!!

  24. Is robbing God not returning tithe in the form of Valuable Goods such as Sheep, Wheat or equivalent today?

  25. Oh man I love this channel ❤️
I was one of those who assumed the livestock and whatnot was technically their form of currency.
    I forgot they had money!
Very eye opening. I worried about my church for a sec when the video started, but I believe my pastor has always called it ‘offering’ and said how ever much we’re willing to give 🙏🏾

  26. We should give money to God. Doesn't the word of God say "Give what belongs to Ceasar and Give what belongs to Lord?" The tithes, 10 percent is not for the Pastor, but for the church to keep running. How you expect for Church to have the lights on?the A.C running? The heater on? To pay the mortgage or rent?

  27. Thanks alot. Seems most so called "churches" wont be able to contunue if they stop teaching tithing and so called "pastors" will need to get real jobs.

  28. I don't care what he says if you give to Gods ministry he will bless you 100 fold .King David always gave his spoils from the philistines he raided to Gods house thats how Solomon had all the gold and jewels to build the temple.

  29. Tithing and Giving OFFERING are 2 different things. Tithing was for The Levites Priest and It was a Law required. We do not live under this law. We GIVE an Offer never tithe.

  30. Not to say Abram payed tithes of ‘all’ before any ‘tax’ ( not commandment) was imposed. ( Did he have money back then!?) oops! I guess he did didn’t he.

  31. How unfortunate for Christian farmers, cattle, sheep, goat etc. Herders but that’s ok because your contentions and argumentative spirit will look for ways out of Biblical standards then find ways to embrace them. So sad.

  32. I see nothing wrong with tithing out of tradition because ministries still need financial support anyway. I see the 10% of net pay as a good guideline on the minimum amount to give.

  33. So Lex,, my church has a food bank which has donated food from supermarkets and parcels up and gives it to the less fortunate,, would this be a good ministry to donate to.

  34. Wow This Guy is so funny! You need to read Leviticus chapter 27 verse 31, 32 tells a tenth now I’m not a rocket scientists. But that says 10% to me maybe you need to read your bible again. Moses explain the law about giving 10% of the tithes . And also Malachi chapter 3 verse 10, 11. Explains how paying your tithes keep the devil from devouring you. But don’t just take my word for it go read your Bible, niv, Amplified, kjv. I have been looking at a lot of this guys videos but he only gives half the info. So if you like the devil devouring your life then don’t tithes remember it’s all for your salvation. God don’t need your money but the tithes takes care of Gods house yeah that’s why churches struggle today. Everyone wants to come n praise God but no one wants to take care of he’s house. Yes there are many that do wrong with the tithes but you are not over looked in Gods eyes live righteous do what’s right. God Bless you all

  35. Again, it's so simple: Unless there is a Temple, you are raising animals, or are raising crops, you do not tithe. End of story.

  36. Thank you for your beautiful explaination of tithe. I totally agree with you. There is no blessing when we don't give thanks to the lord for his support. May God inspire you more. From Carol India

  37. The law is never abolished, it is fulfilled. The bible teaches to tithe and to offer. To give freely in tithing and offering. Give what is for God, not what the man above teaches. He don't tithe seeing only that he is already redeemed and must not do the right thing, the lawful. He just wants to give what he wants, but not what he must be. It is not about obligation. It is about giving God our best.

  38. Tithing never was money, this is the scripture that so many use to support tithing today, if you read the whole book of Malachi and other accounts, you will see that the people was sacrificing the lame animals, not offering the best, that's how they was robbing God, tithing was done through a Levi priests, there's not any today that's appointed by YAHWEH, this why people need to study and research for themselves and quit following everything a man says, this is why most are mislead and on the path to destruction because they lack knowledge to question, disprove lies and deceit, they just follow the majority without ever considering that YAHWEH have always destroyed the majority.

  39. So, is there a time when we SHOULD tyth? These biblical tyths we're always in reference to crops and livestock. Does that mean we should tyth if we grow/raise our own crops/livestock??

  40. Tithing is NEVER mentioned in the New Testament as a command to Christians. Get you a concordance and look it up.

  41. Actually if you practice tithing you may be limiting the amount you give. To whom much is given, much is required. Could that be MORE than 10%.

  42. Amen! Thank you Brother for clearing up the subject of "Tithing" from the Word of God. I love your videos! You're so good preaching the Truth from the Bible. Keep it up! 👍👍. John 8:32.

  43. I agree. Why do Christians hold tight to tithing and the Ten Commandments but largely ignore the rest of the law? I mean we don’t stone people to death for working on the Sabbath as the Law commands.

  44. Because the preacher says to tithe the 10% people often times can barely give that amount & have no money left to give to any of the ministries. And so the ministries suffer that actually help God's people & the pastors are set. My old pastor would do this & for so long the church needed ac but a unit installed almost a decade later all the meanwhile they kept getting a bigger house the people sat in the heat or in the cold during winter

  45. People be like tithings is so important. It is not. People fear men rather than God. They get afraid that God will curse them. God wants us to give to the poor, not give to the churches. Most churches are greedy. I don't tithed because I realized tithings is a scam in today churches and tithings never involved money.

  46. Hey Brother, could you also include the topic of Melchezidek the High priest? Who Abraham gave %10 of all his riches to.

I think it would be important to include that as well.

  47. Though it doesn't deal with the whole spectrum of tithes/giving, this is a very good video and it says more than enough. I find it interesting that not only do most preachers mishandle the scriptures on tithes & offerings, no one ever talks about that "store-house" that we're supposed to bring all of our tithes & offerings into. Isn't a store-house a place for storage? You know, a place where you put stuff until you need it? Hmm. . . . Reminds me of Joseph and storing up food for a time of famine. Anyway, it's something to look into.

  48. “……., and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”
    ‭‭Malachi‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬
Well…. I have, in deed, proved him by returning a tithe, and the windows of heaven have been opened to me again and again; but not only that, when I sell a house, 3 so far, I pay a double tithe.
. I believe that when you honor God, he honors you. I believe he means what he says. Returning a tithe is an exercise in faith.

  49. It is written, I believe it, for it is impossible for God to lie. God bless you for sharing the truth. Keep on searching, and shearing Sir.

  50. Thanks for the blessing of additional knowledge and clarity. We’ve been battling this subject in my home. YHWH is great! 🙏

  51. In my heart, I always knew that tithing was being misappropriated. Thank you for the confirmation. Now everyone, go pay your bills.

  52. The reason churches are closing, the reason our pastors and ministers are becoming less and less effective is people refusing the tithe . Do not take the feed from the ox while he is treading out the grain . People wrongly convinced that tithing is old testament only are hamstringing the ministry, forcing pastors to work 40 hour weeks and neglect time for their flocks

  53. Athough the word tithe wasn't mentioned in the new testament books but it never taught us not to tithe anymore or was there really a teaching that abrogate the tithe command? no. there's no written record show that the tithing law has been abrogated. if there's anyone who has the authority to abrogate it must be jesus since he is our Lord and not anyone else. do we find any verse states that Jesus teaches us not to tithe?

  54. I think its a requirement. It's the only place where God says test me. He calls us God robbers.
My wife give 10% of her food. And believes it meets the requirement?
